Pray for Israel | Standing in Agreement for God’s Chosen
Why should Christians pray for Israel?
- Because God’s Word tells us to bless her (Genesis 12:3). Praying for others releases blessings.
- Because God’s Word tells us to pray for “the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6). If God’s Word tells us to do something, we must obey it and trust it is for our good and others.
- Because God’s Word tells us that Israel is “the apple of His eye.” (Zechariah 2:8). This term of endearment tells us that Israel holds a special place in God’s heart and, therefore should hold a special place in ours too.
These are only a few reasons to stand in agreement with God’s Word and pray for Israel! Let’s dive further…
Stand in Agreement with God’s Promise of Faithfulness
Psalm 102:12-17 shows us God’s unwavering promise to favor Zion and remember her generations to come. The imagery of taking pleasure in her stones and showing favor to her dust speaks to a deep, heartfelt connection to the land and people of Israel. This divine favor leads to a global recognition of God’s glory, as nations and kings will come to revere His name.
Pray for Israel using Psalm 102:12-17!
- “You, O LORD, shall endure forever, and the remembrance of Your name to all generations. You will arise and have mercy on Zion; for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, has come. For Your servants take pleasure in her stones, and show favor to her dust. So the nations shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth Your glory. For the LORD shall build up Zion; He shall appear in His glory. He shall regard the prayer of the destitute, and shall not despise their prayer.” —Psalm 102:12-17
Stand in Agreement with God’s People as Antisemitism Is on the Rise
Today, there’s an alarming rise in global antisemitic mindsets and beliefs. This is not a new phenomenon but rather a resurgence and repackaging of the anti-God and anti-Christ spirit that 1 John 4:3 references.
What’s particularly troubling is seeing prominent church denominations joining this movement—even some unknowingly. As Bible-believing Christians, reflecting on how such actions align with God’s Word and His enduring covenant with Israel is imperative.
Pray for Israel using Isaiah 43:5-7!
- “I will bring your descendants from the east, and gather you from the west; I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ And to the south, ‘Do not keep them back!’ Bring My sons from afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth—everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” —Isaiah 43:5-7
Stand in Agreement with God’s Word and Battle in the Spirit for Israel
It’s crucial to remember that our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces (Ephesians 6:12). Therefore, we must pray fervently for our brothers and sisters in Christ, asking the Lord to soften hearts and open eyes to the truth of His Word and His promises concerning Israel.
We are called to stand united as One New Man—One New Humanity in our Messiah, Jesus (Ephesians 2:15).
Pray for Israel using Ephesians 2:11-18!
- “Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands—that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
- “For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.”—Ephesians 2:11-18 (emphasis added)
Stand in Agreement with God’s Word That Israel’s Rejection Is Not Final
Paul’s words in Romans 11 remind us of the mystery and beauty of God’s plan of covenant restoration. Israel’s stumbling has brought salvation to the Gentiles, but this is not the end of their story.
We, as Gentiles, are grafted into Israel’s rich heritage. We must not boast but instead support and stand with Israel, recognizing our shared Kingdom destinies.
Pray for Israel using Romans 11:11-12!
- “I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But through their fall, to provoke them to jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles. Now if their fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more their fullness!” —Romans 11:11-12
Pray for Israel | Leaders, Security Forces, and Supporting Nations
Believers have both a physical and spiritual responsibility to support and pray for Israel. Politically, many advocate through their influence, but spiritually, we must seek the Father’s heart for the Jewish people and lift them up in constant prayer.
Prayer for Israel’s Leaders
We pray in agreement… Lord God, we ask You to pour out Your protection, wisdom, revelation, favor, strength, and blessing upon Israeli leaders, current members of the Knesset, and the Israeli Security Council as they navigate these difficult situations with the ongoing war. May Your peace, security, and sovereignty burst forth in the nation of Israel.
- “…He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him.”—Daniel 2:21-22
Prayer for Israel’s Security and Defense
We pray in agreement… Lord God, may Your wisdom, favor, insight, and protection rest upon the men and women in all departments of Israeli security and defense as they diligently persevere to protect the citizens and borders of the nation of Israel.
- “For the LORD will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.”—Isaiah 52:12
Prayer for the Nations to Understand Truth About Israel
We pray in agreement… Lord God, we ask for Your hand of safety and protection to rest upon the nation of Israel—for the nations of the world to hear the truth and begin to rise up in honor, respect, and support of Your chosen nation and capital of Jerusalem.
- “These are the borders by which you shall divide the land as an inheritance…”—Ezekiel 47:13
- “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”—Genesis 12:3
Let us choose today to stand firm in our faith, recognizing Israel’s significance in God’s redemptive plan for the world. May we be the light to others as we bring this truth so that our Lord will be seen and glorified!
