We Are Called to Help Those Less Fortunate
Where do you rest your head at night? A warm, cozy bed? What is the most comfortable piece of clothing you own? Your favorite pair of pajamas?Such simple comforts are often what we miss the most when we are away from home. But, can you imagine being at home yet without those small pleasures? The children who live in an Israeli apartment in an Orthodox Jewish community that we recently visited, experience just that. From infants to school-aged children just learning to walk with assistance, this home provides various therapies to help these extraordinary youths thrive. These precious young ones live together and are encouraged by a round of applause and warm hugs as they learn new skills and reach milestones that many people thought were impossible. When we visited this facility in October, we provided a warm, fluffy bed comforter for each of the 70 children who live there.
“Butwhoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
“My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.”—1 John 3:17-18
We walked in knowing we were providing something they needed, but we left with a greater gift. We walked away with a heart full of gratitude—a brilliant reminder of God’s goodness, mercy, and love—and ready to answer the call for what God has in store for us next to help those less fortunate.
“‘…for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink;I was a stranger and you took Me in;Iwasnaked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me;I was in prison and you came to Me.’
“And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you didit to one of the least of these My brethren, you diditto Me.’”—Matthew 25:35-36, 40
We are called…
We are called to be the hands and feet of Yeshua. We are charged with taking care of those around us, those without a voice, those less fortunate. For us, the bedding and comforters we provided for the children at ALEH Jerusalem were each a practical provision, yes, but a symbolic one as well. It’s a beautiful image of clothing them in their sleep with peace. It’s a way for us to say, “We surround you with the Father’s love and cover you with prayers.”For those who might think their next request would be something bigger or more costly, you’d be mistaken. When we left, they humbly asked for a pair of pajamas for each of the 70 children who live there.A pair of pajamas! How can we not say yes? This humble request is far from extravagant, but instead is a simple delight that they can enjoy every single day—something they asked for specifically that you can provide!A simple comfort they can put on… and we pray as they wrap themselves in those soft pajamas, they will feel the peace that we pray for them and the nation of Israel.
Will you join us?
As supporters and prayer partners of Curt Landry Ministries, we want to include you in all we do. We want to come to you and let you know who you are helping through your supportive donations and prayers. With this project, we estimate the cost of a pair of pajamas to be around $25 each. Will you provide that for a young child today? You see, these children may have been told they don’t matter, they will never walk, or they will spend their lives in a bed. But with their pure determination, and by the power of the Lord, they are growing, changing, and making an impression on so many—especially the lives of those at Curt Landry Ministries. When the crisp, fall air gets chilly, and the wind begins to blow, ushering in the winter months, don’t your favorite pair of comfy pajamas warm your heart? We want to give a double portion to these little ones. The Lord provides for our every need. We want to reveal to these children the love of Yeshua by blessing them with what they need, and provide to their souls that same comfort that we’ve been blessed with.
“Blessedbethe God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, whocomforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”—2 Corinthians 1:3-4
