Biblical Finance and Health: What Does the Bible Say about Kingdom Economics, Money, and Good Health?

The Bible has a lot to say about money, finances, and how to care for our bodies. Jesus talked about money in 16 of His 38 parables. In these parables, He discussed how to handle both our money and our possessions. In the four Gospels, 1 out of every 10 verses directly relates to money or possessions. Regarding our health and bodies, we see God’s initial thoughts and declarations going all the way back to the garden when He proclaimed that mankind was “made in His image, and [that] it was good.” Is there a connection between Health and Wealth?

More than likely you have heard something similar to the following statements:

Regarding Money and Finances—

Regarding Bodies and Health—

Today, there seems to be a myriad of investment opportunities, as well as there are diets. The information can be conflicting, but possibly the most heartbreaking is that Christians today are living with debt, financial burdens, chronic health issues, depression, and anxiety, to name just a few.The enemy is wreaking havoc on God’s children, attempting to chain them down with heavy yokes. But the Word of God says that we are victorious! So how do these two seemingly opposing circumstances come together? We will unpack what the Bible has to say about both of these subjects and look at where to go for practical application.

Let’s begin by defining biblical finance, and biblical health and wellness…

Biblical Finance— In the Bible, God lays out basic principles about how we are to manage our money. The very first principle is to understand that we are stewards of the talents (money) that He has given us. He is the source and always has our best interests at heart. Therefore, what He instructs us to do with our finances and how we live, we must both trust and do. The Bible gives many examples as to how this worked for those who followed, such as Job… and how it did not, such as the rich young ruler in Mark 10:17-31.

Are you able to trust your finances to the Lord’s economic plan?

Finances are possibly the one area that is most difficult to trust to the Lord. However, God tells us to do exactly that, and a great blessing and promise are on the other side.

“‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me in this,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.’”Malachi 3:10

Biblical Health and Wellness— Our health, be it physical or mental, impacts our spiritual lives. There is a balance of keeping all of these aspects aligned and healthy. When we have something as minor as a cold, or a life-threatening illness, emotional and physical exhaustion manifests and takes a toll on our bodies. Our physical symptoms relate to emotional struggles and vice versa. Our mind, will, emotions, and the physical body are linked together with our spiritual life. God wants us to live healthily and to prosper so that we can fulfill our God-ordained calling to further His Kingdom.

  • “I have shown you in every way,by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said,‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”—Acts 20:35
