How Do I Deal with My Emotions?
“Your every present thought is a significant building block in determining the quality of your future.”—Cindy Trimm
In Cindy Trimm’s book, ‘Commanding Your Moring’ Cindy speaks about the importance of handling our emotions well. As Believers in Christ, this should be a discipline we all aspire too.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.”—Galatians 5:22-26
We are called to be salt and light to a broken world. The fruits of the Spirit are often the very opposite of how a struggling world deals with difficult emotions. Jesus Himself was the perfect example of this, as He chose to lay down His life as an act of love, toward a hateful and sinful world.
Cindy’s book is an instruction manual that walks every Believer through how to not only deal with those tender emotions that are common to every one of us, but she takes it a step further by empowering the reader to take authority over their future.
“Your thoughts and words are transmitted like a short wave radio signal. They send messages out on a specific frequency and are transmitted back to you manifested as an experience or occurrence in your life. Your thoughts create something like a magnetic field around you, while your words provide a kind of spiritual homing device that attract either positive people, things and experiences or negative people, things and experiences.”
The famous quote by Frank Outlaw says “Watch your thoughts, they become words; watch your words, they become actions; watch your actions, they become habits; watch your habits, they become character; watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”
Every action starts based out of a thought. This means that we must be highly aware of what thoughts we entertain.
“It is essential that you become extremely vigilant about what enters your mind daily. What you hear affects how you think and what you believe.”—Cindy Trimm
Our minds are like maps. When we think the same thoughts over and over they become patterns that soon turn into habits. So, if you’ve spent years thinking negative thoughts, it will take time to pave new roads in the highways of your mind. The best way to start the process of moving from old thought patterns into new spheres of thinking, is to speak the Word of God in your life.
“Come into agreement with what God has already said in His Word about you and your situation. You have to get God’s Word on it. Then fill your atmosphere with His promises on the matter.”—Cindy Trimm
This is light and life to a mind struggling to move forward. However, if you’re grasping at straws Ms. Trimm shares this tip:
“When it feels as if you are wandering lost in the dark and can’t figure out what to do, stop and command. ‘Let there be light!’”
The good news is that as you continue to commit to develop healthy thought processes… your outlook on life will begin to change! As that begins to happen, the possibilities become endless. God calls us to walk in dominion and authority. He calls us to live victoriously in every circumstance.
“Even in the midst of what looks like catastrophe, keep speaking the blessing; keep the ship of your life on a steady course, and before you know it, the storm clouds will clear and you will have broken through your difficulty and left it far behind you.”—Cindy Trimm
We hope that you have enjoyed this short overview of this excellent book. There is so much more wisdom that can only be gained from reading the book in its entirety. Still, if you’re just taking those initial steps toward controlling your thoughts and emotions, then this is a great place to start.
