The Decree Over Our Soul

Once again, we are continuing to focus on certain passages and decrees from scripture that are particularly relevant to us and our faith in this Jubilee Year of Abundance, 5776. This week’s passage is one we refer to as the “Decree Over Our Soul,” and it comes from Psalm 103:1:

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name!”

We often forget that our souls need to align with the Holy Spirit, because it is Christ in us who is our hope and glory. King David, someone who struggled in the area of his soul on many occasions, used proclamations and decrees to command his soul to align with the Lord’s. Remember, many of these Psalms were written by David. When we read these Psalms, not only do they provide a calming means of improving our faith in God, but they also give us a small window into the thoughts, experiences and emotions of David himself. David, despite being one of the most prominent figures of the Old Testament and a revered figure in the Judeo Christian faith, had many, many struggles in his life. Some of these include:

  • He was particularly vulnerable to temptation, especially lust. Not only did he have at least eight wives, but he also was a womanizer and a cheater.
  • David is guilty of murder, having killed Uriaha the Hittite to take his wife Bathsheba from him.
  • One of David’s sons raped his half sister, after which David refused to punish his son because he was his firstborn. One of David’s other sons grew resentful because of this and killed the eldest brother. This son, Absalom, eventually revolted against David and was killed in the ensuing battles.

For as just and great as David is remembered as being, there was a lot of turmoil, sin and strife in his life. Yet he still praises God, and asks God to bless all that is within him. In his darkest times, he could still find strength in his faith. Here is a way to pray over this passage: My soul is being transformed into the abundance of Jubilee. Can I tell you why? This is my Jubilee of abundance. If the lump is holy, so are the branches. We are both Holy. Praise God for the lump! Soul, in the name of Yeshua, I am here to tell you, it is 5776, and this is my Jubilee of abundance. So soul, I have got news for you. The Joy of the Lord is my strength—in Yeshua’s name—Amen!
