Obedience: A Powerful Strength
The word obedience can carry strong connotations. The Bible has much to say on the topic. Unfortunately, in our human minds we can get caught up with thoughts of legalism and rules, making us feel burdened. However, this is far from what God says about being obedient.
As Believers, we show that we love Christ by obeying Him…
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.”—John 14:15
It is paramount to remember that while we are called to obey God, that our obedience must continually flow out of our love for Him. We must understand our place and His authority, loving Him because we understand just how much He loves us. Because of this great relationship we desire to obey Him, knowing that He has perfect plans for us.
We are not called to obey a list of rules, but to love the LORD with all of our heart, soul and mind. When this supernatural exchange happens, the Spirit equips us to follow God’s desire out of love, allowing us to follow and obey His will.
The gift of obedience is powerful and comes with a promise.
“But if you indeed obey His voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.”—Exodus 22:23
When you are walking in God’s will through obedience, He fights for you! Take heart today as you follow God’s lead in obedience knowing great rewards are waiting. God desires to be our protector and to enable us with His great armor. He asks us to obey and trust Him. We cannot obey if we do not trust that what He has in store for us is a mighty blessing.
God is the only one who knows our hearts. He sees through any mask we use as a shiny veneer to cover a sinful heart. If you are obedient, rejoice in this Godly Strength! Ask God to continue to renew your heart and expose any sin that might inhibit your obedience in the future. He loves His children and wants to teach and discipline us. Trust that a great reward is on the other side.
Ask God to give you His vision of obedience. Seek the Holy Spirit in all things, thanking Him for His adornment of a new heart of obedience. With your obedience, others will see Christ’s love and mercy, furthering God’s Kingdom!
