Making Time to Pray and Talk to God
We all lead busy lives. With so many of us needing to focus on work, school, children, extracurricular activities, volunteering, and more throughout the day, it can be extremely hard for us to take even ten minutes out for quiet reflection with our Creator.
For many who find themselves falling out of the habit of prayer and talking to God, it’s not intentional—it simply is easy to fall behind when life gets busy. But it is when we are the most busy that the quiet moments with our God are the most important. We need God’s continual calming peace in our lives—to stay connected with Him in both calm and turbulent times. Here are a few tips to help you make more time in your life to prayer and talk to our Father:
- Put it in your schedule. This is perhaps the best tip we can offer. Simply set aside 10 or 20 minutes every single day at the same time, and it will automatically become a habit—a part of your daily routine. It’s a lot harder to fall out of the habit when there is a designated time for it in your daily schedule. Essentially this becomes your daily appointment with God!
- Remove distractions. You’ll be amazed at how much extra time you actually do have. Turn off the television and set down your electronic devices. When you find yourself with some down time, remove these distractions and spend a few minutes with God before getting back to your leisure time.
- Pray while eating. If you eat lunch by yourself at work, for example, you might consider doubling your lunch break as your daily prayer time. You already have the time to yourself, so why not invite God to spend it with you? You can essentially merge prayer time with time you’ve already reserved.
- Keep your bible and journal close by. Having these quiet time tools always conveniently on hand makes it easier for you to jump into prayer time whenever the inspiration strikes. It encourages you to spend time with God.
