Kingdom Finance Series | Firstfruits and Teruma… Sowing into the Increase
What Exactly is Firstfruits?
Firstfruits, or Teruma, is typically 2% of your increase. Now, this is where many get confused. Firstfruits offerings are not a commandment like tithing is. However, if you desire blessings from the Lord, firstfruits offerings activate the blessings. Your offering declares the trust you have in the Lord for an overflow of blessings to come.
What Does, “You Reap What You Sow” Mean?
We’ve all heard of the saying, “You reap what you sow.” Yet, what does that really mean? Or more importantly, what does God have to say about it? We often associate the common saying with negative connotations; however, the Lord has a slightly different take on it. God calls us to REMEMBER THIS…
“Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”
—2 Corinthians 9:6
As we have been discussing throughout the Kingdom Finance Series, there are principles that God established for His universe. [Click HERE for the start of the series] We can anticipate that when we sow generously, we will also reap generously.
How to Unleash the Power of Your Inheritance…
Looking at the Jewish roots of firstfruits, we see that they were brought into the Lord’s house for a particular purpose. The motivation was generosity… the recipients were the priests. Therefore, the firstfruits offerings unleash your inheritance, and is tied to blessings.
By providing for our modern-day priests (our pastors), we are allowing them the freedom to put their own time, efforts, and energy into seeking the Lord with their entire beings. When they are fully able to tap into the presence of God, without having to constantly seek out financial support, then they can truly devote their life toward feeding and tending their flock. God foresaw that these mighty men and women of God would need provision, thus He made a plan that provides for their wellbeing.
“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim with new wine.”
—Proverbs 3:9-10
The Firstfruits Offering is Not About Money…
The truth is, the firstfruits offering is not about money. It’s about Holy Spirit wanting to do something in YOU! When we allow leadership the space and time they need to spend in His presence, then we can expect an outpouring of revelation and insight like no other. The offering is all about increasing and accessing the presence of God and His Holy Spirit in a transforming way—a way that unleashes His Glory, which literally touches every aspect of our lives, as well as the lives of those around us.
For those of you who desire to cancel the assignment of discontentment and unleash the power of your inheritance, ask the Lord to place on your heart a generous spirit. Remember that as you sow, so shall you reap. Consider that as you sow into a mighty man or woman of God, that you, too, will reap greater rewards of revelation, insight, clarity, and encouragement… not only from them, but also from your heavenly Father. Your gift makes a way for the conduit of Kingdom wisdom to be released into your own life in revelatory ways!
God says that He will fill your vats to the brim with new wine! Who wants to be cleansed of the old and filled with new wine?
