Deciphering Discernment
Do you believe that you might have the Godly Strength of discernment?
The enemy blinds the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see truth. Therefore, we must rely on God’s light to be shed on our minds in order to see and understand truth. We can learn and have knowledge, but to have true wisdom and discernment is not from us… but from God.
Spiritual discernment is the ability to know and tell the difference between what is true and what is false. Some errors and lies the enemy tells us sound very close to truth. However, the Godly Strength of discernment can sift out what is almost true, from the real truth—His truth.
When you have the Godly Strength of discernment you crave God’s love and presence. You are sensitive to the Spirit. It comes from knowing Christ Jesus.
“And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”—Philippians 1:9-11
God’s Word says that our discernment flows more and more out of love, and therefore we will be able to detect and understand ways that are excellent—God’s ways! When we have the Godly Strength of discernment we are sincere and without offense. This means that with God’s wisdom and love, we know how to go about asking questions… not to change someone’s mind, but to show them their need for repentance and Yeshua’s saving work on the cross.
Discernment brings about inner change within us as God’s own righteousness, justice, wisdom and understanding moves through us. In 1 John, we are instructed to test the spirits. We are told that there are many false prophets and spirits, not from God, that are out among us.
“By this you know the Spirit of God; every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God.”—1 John 4:2-3
God’s gift of discernment will empower you to warn and speak to others against false teachings. There are many false teachings in our world today that promises peace, enlightenment, and mental and physical strength. There are even false teachings about who Yeshua really is. God’s discernment that He has bestowed upon you searches these things out and deciphers these ever-so-slightly distorted lies that can lead others astray. When anything is used to tear down, shame or criticize, you know it is not from our loving and merciful God.
Pray today that God will strengthen this gift within you, that you may grow closer to Him, understanding Him. Ask Him to use this gift to lead others to His great love and saving grace, all while glorifying His great name! I pray these words encourage you today to grow closer to God, and that you continue to explore your Godly Strength.
