Attentiveness… A Watchful and Wise Character

Words that describe an attentive person are considerate, polite, thinking of others, a good listener. Does this describe you? Then you have the Godly Strength of attentiveness! This characteristic is a powerful tool in God’s Kingdom because it reflects His perfect watchfulness of us. If this is your Godly Strength, you can be attentive to others because you understand how God listens to your every prayer and praise. Give Him thanks for attentively listening to you!

Attentiveness is about lending your full attention to someone in need and being observant to the world around you. When you do this, relationships are strengthened and others are more likely to hear what you have to say. With your gift, you know when to listen and when to speak. God has given you great wisdom!

What does God say about attentiveness?…

• “…making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.”—Proverbs 2:2-5
• “Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.”—Hebrews 2:1

God desires for us to earnestly seek Him and be attentive not only with our ear, but with our hearts. He has called us into action when we are listening attentively. This action blesses others and in turn we will be blessed. We will grow in greater joy and peace as we know Him more!

Attentiveness is not…

Throughout scripture, God warns us to be on guard, for the enemy will attempt to steal the joy and peace we have in Christ. He will attempt to take your attentiveness and turn it into gossip or malice intentions. Pray that the Lord protects this good gift, and that He shows you any place in your heart that may have selfish intentions—turning those places into genuine consideration for others.

The Lord has given you great power in the gift of attentiveness. You have the God-given blessing to be aware of spiritual counterfeits. Your submission to God, being attentive to His Spirit, will richly bless your life.

Be encouraged…

Because of your gift of attentiveness, the Bible says that you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. What a great blessing! Your steadfast attentiveness will allow you to grow deeper in your intimate relationship with the Lord, understanding His Word and character. This will strengthen your daily walk!
