A Dream… Realized!
Shimon Peres was born in Poland in 1923 and immigrated to Israel (then known as Palestine) with his family in 1932. He joined the Haganah (the predecessor of the IDF) in 1947, and at the request of David Ben-Gurion, was appointed to become the head of naval services.
Peres was elected to the Knesset in November of 1959 as Deputy Defense Minister. When he was made Israeli Director-General of the Ministry of Defense, Peres had become the youngest person to hold this position, at the age of 29. He served his country continuously for over 66 years in various high-profile cabinet positions.
Peres went on to become the ninth President of Israel (2007-2014), Prime Minister of Israel between 1984 and 1986, acting Prime Minister of Israel briefly in 1977 and again in 1995/96.
As one of the primary architects of the Oslo Accords, Shimon Peres became the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994.
Recently, Paul Marcellino and I had the unique privilege and honor to meet with Shimon Peres at the Center for Peace in Tel Aviv, Israel. We discussed many issues concerning Israel today, as well as the many of the projects that Curt Landry Ministries, My Olive Tree and Dead Sea Moringa are involved in throughout the nation of Israel.
When we were finished he so graciously asked us, “What can I do for you?”
My response was that we would be honored if he would bless these works—specifically our mission of planting trees in the Negev Desert. He agreed, and spoke a beautiful blessing over the My Olive Tree project in the Negev, as well as our new Dead Sea Moringa Herbal School of Medicine in the Dead Sea region.
You see, in the 1950s, David Ben-Gurion had a vision of turning the Negev Desert from a desert into an oasis… And as a protégé of Ben-Gurion, Peres has captured Ben-Guirion’s vision of turning the Negev Desert into a lush region.
At My Olive Tree we share in this vision and are committed to fulfill this dream and the Biblical prophecies of restoration by planting 1 million olive trees and fruitful vineyards throughout Israel and the Negev desert—olive trees planted on IDF bases, in Jerusalem’s King’s Valley, and throughout the barren deserts of Southern Israel, as well as vineyards that will produce grape juice exported throughout the world!
In February 2016 My Olive Tree will have the distinct honor of planting 800 trees in Sde Boker area of the Negev Desert, adjacent to an IDF Field School where many of the youth of Israel, the U.S. and other nations are trained and educated in the opportunities available within the IDF.
Like David Ben-Gurion and Shimon Peres, My Olive Tree believes in Isaiah’s prophecy that says…
“…And the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose.”—Isaiah 35.1
David Ben-Gurion had the vision… Shimon Peres has the vision… and now we share the same vision. We are determined to fulfill that prophecy. Isaiah, Ben-Gurion and Peres poured the foundations. Now, in 2015, we finally have a venue available that can turn this ancient vision into a reality; through the NEW and innovative Bridge to Zion crowdfunding platform!
