7 Reasons to Teach Kids About Passover
The Passover story is about freedom, deliverance, and the release of divine blessings. It is prophetic and was fulfilled by Yeshua, Jesus, when He died on the cross for the sins of the world during the feast of Passover (Matthew 26:2).
Passover, its meaning, and fulfillment are core to our faith as followers of Jesus. It is meant to be passed down to the next generation! God desires that we be so moved by His power and deliverance that we teach our kids about Passover so they, too, can experience this divine appointment with the Lord.
How Do We Know God Desires Us to Teach Children About Passover?
His Word tells us.
“Now the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, ‘This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you. Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: “On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household….And thus you shall eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord’s Passover.”’
“‘“For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.”’

7 Reasons to Teach Kids About Passover
- It shows them the power of Jesus’ blood…
The blood of the Passover lamb held back the angel of death from entering a household. The blood of Jesus holds back death from those who accept Him as their Savior. You can show them how the Passover story is a prophetic picture of what Jesus came to do, how He died for our sins during the Feast of Passover as “the Lamb of God Who takes away the sins of the world.” (John 1:29)
- It shows them God’s love and redemption…
Israel had made many mistakes over generations, yet God’s love and redemptive power did not fail. He kept His covenant word and heard their cries. The Passover story teaches kids that God also hears their cries and redeems them.
- It teaches them about God’s divine protection…
Through the plagues, Israel was protected. Psalm 91:7 says, “A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you.” The plagues were like this—thousands were falling, but Israel was divinely protected. Passover shows that God also divinely protects your children.
- It reveals to them God’s heart for them to be free…
God provided exact instructions that would not only protect but also free Israel. After the Israelites placed lamb’s blood on the doorposts and lintels of their houses, which fully protected them, God parted the Red Sea, which led them out of slavery and into freedom. God’s heart is that our children come under the blood and walk in the fullness of their salvation.

God told Moses He would use him to bring His people out of Egypt. Moses argued with God and doubted, saying, “…Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh…” (Exodus 3:11). But God said, “…I will certainly be with you…” (Exodus 3:12). This was true. God didn’t give Moses every detail of how freedom would be released. He simply said it would happen. And it did. Passover shows children how God stands by His Word.

As Believers in Yeshua, we are covered by the blood of the Passover Lamb. When you teach kids about Passover, you are revealing the truth of Romans 11—that they have been grafted in to share in the “…fatness of the olive tree” (Romans 11:17).
