The Roots of Your Faith
Do you want to learn more about the roots of your faith? Are you uncertain where Old Testament truths and Judaic heritage fall for Believers? Then join us below as we uncover roots hidden away from Believers for nearly 1,700 years!
Councils of Elvira and Nicaea:
While many things affect our knowledge of the roots of our faith, two major events hide it away. Two councils, seeming to promote faith in God, but actually promoting division and stealing biblical promise. The Council of Elvira and the Council of Nicaea.
Church elders at these early 4th century councils established rules and regulations to separate the Church from the Jewish roots of our faith. Further, many religious leaders tried to erase the memory of our Jewish Yeshua—Jesus—from the faith of Christianity. These decisions were not in alignment with God’s perfect plan for Israel or the Church… for they resulted in pushing the Jewish people away from their loving Messiah while separating Believers from the blessings of their heritage.
Because of this, the majority of the Church today not only fails to grasp the level and significance of the Jewish roots of their faith, but even hold animosity toward the Jewish people. This is heartbreaking, as it goes against everything the Word teaches, as well as, our Jewish Messiah, Yeshua. Further, it causes Believers to miss out on a deeper understanding of what is rightfully theirs, from blessings, to covenant promises, to heritage, to even times and seasons in Him.
These roots of our faith are directly tied to heritage, which is tied to inheritance. So, when we choose to throw away our roots, we turn away from our full heritage in God and miss out on the inheritance He has set in place for His children. We lose many aspects of our familial relationship with Him.
The Roots of Your Faith:
At Curt Landry Ministries, we understand that God never desired this separation for us. By restoring the roots of our faith, we are empowered to be who He called us to be, with a more in-depth understanding of our Father, His love, and who we are in Him.
It is time for us to gain a deeper understanding of who God is and begin reclaiming our spiritual inheritance today!
“…at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise… For He Himself is our peace… so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross…”—Ephesians 2:12, 14-16 (emphasis added)
God desires that Jews and Gentiles come together in their faith in Him as the three-in-one; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is a powerful design of a loving Father. It creates unity; it creates strength… like the three-stranded cord, which is not easily broken (see Ecclesiastes 4:12).
If unity and greater strength were all that we came away with by understanding the roots of our faith, that would be enough… but there is so much more…
By understanding the spiritual roots of our faith, we open ourselves up to blessings of protection, provision, hope, and more. Yet, to accomplish this, we need to not only understand what separated us from our spiritual roots but learn to combat the misconception of “replacement theology.”
Replacement theology is essentially an idea that God transferred everything from His chosen Children of Israel to His Church, thereby replacing them. This is a dangerous belief because it goes against God’s perfect Word…
In fact, in many ways, replacement theology does worse. It accuses God of being things He is not; of having a changing mind, of being a covenant and promise-breaker, of lying, of not being firm in His love… On an on, replacement theology does more than attack Jews. It attacks the truth of who God is and says that His Word—of which Yeshua was the Word made flesh—is somehow flawed, leaving us to pick and choose what we like from it.
None of that is accurate. Yes, Gentile Believers are blessed and loved. So much so that Jesus saw to it that not only might Gentiles find salvation, but that they might be grafted into the promise. Into covenants made long before any believed. However, the truth of this does not mean the Children of Israel must be cut off.
The thing is, God IS love. It is stated in the Word, but more than that, it is shown. Over and over again, we see the love of our God. He has an infinite capacity for love, which is why, despite what we may think, God can love His children, Jew and Gentile alike, with passion. Jews are not expected to become Gentiles, nor Gentiles Jews, because He loves us and created each with a purpose. And His loving the Gentile people should not be taken as a sign that the Jewish people were somehow thrown from our Father’s constant love, or expelled from covenants that cannot be broken.
In fact, as Romans 11:15-18 says, we should desire Father God restoring them to fullness, “For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?
“For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches. And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.”
As Believers—Jewish, and Gentile—we are meant to make disciples of all nations (see Matthew 28:19). Most of us realize this, but not many understand that God’s salvation so freely extended to the Gentiles through Yeshua should provoke the non-believing Jews to jealousy (see Romans 11:11-14).
This jealousy is not for the Believer’s benefit or entertainment, but so that our non-believing Jewish brothers and sisters might also find the fullness of what God had intended for them through the Messiah. However, for the Gentile Believer to live that out before the world, a few things have to happen…
- Old Testament, as well as New Testament scriptures, must be read, studied, and believed
- Anti-Semitic views must die within each of us, and also collectively
- Our heritage/inheritance through the roots of our faith must be redeemed
- The timing and seasons of the Lord that He puts forth in His Word must become action
- Deep relationship with God needs to become a priority
Beyond these, we need to begin to expect and accept blessings from God, realizing that we are joint-heirs with Christ and have access to God and the promises He has made.
“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”—Romans 8:16-17
We have to understand our God-given heritage if we are to provoke others to jealousy—or even make disciples—by our faith in Christ. Blessings and visible differences between us and others need to occur. Our relationship with God needs to be so deep that the evidence is visible upon our faces, like with Moses coming down to the Israelites from Mt. Sinai (see Exodus 34:29-35). The Jewish people have many irrevocable blessings. They observe God’s times and seasons. They honor God and find many blessings in return—such as the nine blessings of Passover.
To make disciples, teaching others His commandments, we have to be in sync with God and obedient to Him. The lifestyle of our faith that stirs the non-believing Jew through jealousy to salvation, even when they are already in covenant with God and receiving blessings for serving Him… well, that requires something more…
It requires us to also partake of the blessings and covenants they have through a unique relationship with God. Taking our heritage, the roots of our faith, and combining them with the FIRE of the Holy Spirit! With the Blood of Yeshua, our Messiah! With His love and grace!
In doing this, we will be able to answer the call to make disciples of the nations and see the reconciling work of God for all of Israel as they come to the saving knowledge of their Messiah in Yeshua—causing them to become jealous for Him! And by doing so, we will also discover our deeper heritage in Christ and the inheritance that means. By answering the call God has placed upon all who believe, we gain relationship, blessings, promises, covenants, and the full knowledge of who we are in God… who He created us to be.
When we tap into the roots of our faith, what we find is peace and purpose, love and light. We become true children of God, as well as mighty warriors in His Kingdom…
It is time for the Church to arise! To rid itself of false doctrine and unfounded hate.
It is time to understand who we are and shake the world through the love and blessings of our God! Through the covenant promise found in the roots of our faith. May we never be the same.
