Living free means different things to different people. But if you are a Believer in the freedom of Yeshua’s blood, your definition is rooted in biblical truth.
Recently, we discussed the Hebrew definitions of freedom and the slightly different connotations of each. We get to choose spiritual freedom by following God and His will. This kind of freedom isn’t fleeting; it is everlasting!
[GO HERE] to read about the Hebrew definitions of freedom.
When you are under the yoke of slavery to sin, you feel held down and held back. It’s like a chain that won’t set you free no matter how much effort you use in your own strength to break it. It can only break by believing and trusting the Lord completely.
Easier said than done, right?
Here are a few steps you can take today to begin your journey to freedom…
-
Identify the enemy
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”—Ephesians 6:12
A situation or a person in your life is provoking anger, frustration, or fear. God’s Word tells us it is the one behind those things in our lives that is the real enemy. You must understand who is pulling strings behind the scenes to know the right next steps to take on your path to freedom.
-
Ask God for a desire to do something different.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”—Psalm 139:23-24
It’s hard to hear, but many times we want situations to be different in our lives, yet we don’t have a desire to make the necessary changes. To step toward freedom, we need God’s desire. Therefore, praying for a heart and attitude change brings about the longing for change.
If you don’t have the eagerness to alter your course, go and ask the Lord to take out your want and replace it with His.
-
Ask God to equip you to do something different
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
“If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.”—John 15:4-6
Now that God has put His desire into your heart, ask Him to equip you to carry out the needed change. Ask Him to give you His strength so that He will receive the glory.
-
Ask God that His will be done, and His work in you be made complete
“Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”—Hebrews 13:20-21
Often, we can start the change only to meet an unexpected hurdle. Be prepared by asking God to go ahead of you, clearing the way, and keep your eyes focused on Him.

Spend time in His Word and in prayer
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.”—James 1:22-24
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”—Hebrews 4:12
To know and stay in God’s will, devotional time is essential. Stay connected to Him daily—He is your life source and provides the light to your path.

Welcome His instruction
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness…”—2 Timothy 3:16
“For whom the Lord loves He corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights.”—Proverbs 3:12
Most of us don’t desire correction, but don’t look at God’s correcting instruction as condemning. Instead, view it as freeing! He loves you enough to prevent further heartbreak down the road. He brings you back under His wings of refuge and safety when you’ve gotten off the path of freedom.
He will not leave you nor forsake you. If you need further encouragement, schedule your 1-on-1 Personal Prayer meeting today!
You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free…
“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, ‘If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’
“They answered Him, ‘We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, “You will be made free?”’
“Jesus answered them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.’”—John 8:31-36
